Tell us a little about your organization and the ETA standard you are considering.
Customers increasingly want evidence—not just environmental promises.
The ETA Carbon Reduction Standard gives organizations a structured way to identify, measure and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, then provide independently audited evidence of the systems and data behind that work.
Understand Your Carbon Footprint
Bring energy use, fuel, transport, logistics and other relevant sources into a consistent carbon inventory so you can see where emissions actually arise.
Give Customers Better Evidence
Respond more confidently to sustainability questionnaires, procurement requirements and customer requests for carbon information with a structured, auditable approach.
Turn Existing Efforts Into Recognition
If you are already improving energy efficiency, reducing fuel use, optimizing freight or changing materials, certification can provide independent recognition of that progress.
Improve the Quality of Your Data
Establish traceable calculations, defined boundaries, documented sources and consistent methods so carbon claims are supported by credible evidence.
Demonstrate Continual Improvement
Set measurable reduction targets, track performance over time and show that carbon management is moving beyond reporting into real operational improvement.
Strengthen Reputation and Trust
Independent certification provides an additional layer of assurance beyond internal self-declaration and can support conversations with customers, investors and other stakeholders.
You don't have to start at five stars.
The ETA Carbon Reduction Standard recognizes that organizations differ in size, capability and access to emissions data. Its progressive certification structure allows organizations to start at a practical level and build toward more advanced carbon management over time.
1 Star
Tracks and reports location-based emissions, covering Scope 1 and Scope 2.
2 Stars
Adds activity-based emissions, including shipping and transportation.
3 Stars
Includes location-based, activity-based and product-related emissions.
4 Stars
Adds partial third-party verification and full public disclosure.
5 Stars
Adds demonstrable science-based emission reduction targets.
Measure. Reduce. Demonstrate.
The ETA Carbon Reduction Standard sets requirements for organizations to identify, measure and reduce carbon and greenhouse gas emissions within their operations and value chains.
It is designed around practical implementation, transparent data and continual improvement rather than simply making environmental claims.
The standard can cover direct emissions, purchased energy, transportation, logistics, purchased goods and services, product use and other value-chain sources depending on the certification level and materiality to the organization.
Part of the ETA Environmental & Climate Responsibility domainWhat the standard actually looks at
- Electricity, natural gas and site energy use
- Company vehicles and equipment fuel
- Refrigerants and air-conditioning emissions
- Shipping, freight and logistics
- Business travel and other activity-related emissions
- Purchased materials, products and services where relevant
- Reduction targets and improvement actions
- Evidence, calculations and data quality
The focus is on material sources—organizations are expected to identify what is relevant to their own operations rather than treat every possible category as equally important.
Credible data is part of the value.
The standard places real emphasis on the evidence behind carbon reporting. Emissions data should be traceable, calculations transparent, assumptions documented and significant sources verified.
Evidence-Based
Utility invoices, meter readings, fuel records, transport records, supplier information and other supporting evidence can be used to substantiate emissions data.
Transparent
Emission factors, assumptions, exclusions and calculation methods are documented so reported results can be understood and checked.
Verifiable
Internal verification and, at higher certification levels, external assurance help strengthen confidence in the quality of the underlying data.
Carbon management made practical—not intimidating.
Carbon accounting can sound technical and overwhelming. Compliancehelp's role is to turn the standard into a manageable system built around the information your organization can realistically collect and use.
We Help You Know Where to Start
We help define a sensible scope, identify material emissions sources and establish a practical route toward the certification level that fits your organization.
Built Around Your Real Data
Rather than creating a theoretical carbon program, we work with the records you actually have—energy, fuel, transport, purchasing and operational data—and build from there.
Practical Measurement Framework
We help establish the registers, data collection arrangements, calculation approach and evidence needed to make carbon information consistent and auditable.
Progressive, Not All-or-Nothing
You do not need to solve every Scope 3 challenge on day one. The certification structure allows you to establish a credible starting point and mature over time.
Experienced Management-System Consultants
We understand governance, objectives, KPIs, records, internal audits and continual improvement—and how to integrate those elements with systems you may already have.
Through to Audit Readiness
We help establish the system, review the evidence, verify implementation and prepare your organization for independent certification assessment.
A practical way to begin—or strengthen—your carbon journey.
Carbon certification can sound like something reserved for very large companies with specialist sustainability teams. The ETA structure is specifically designed to be more accessible and progressive.
That means many organizations can begin with a manageable level of measurement and independent recognition, then increase the sophistication of their carbon program over time.
Compliancehelp keeps the work proportionate to your organization and certification goals, helping you avoid unnecessary complexity while still building a credible, auditable system.

The aim is not to bury your organization in calculations. It is to establish a credible system that helps you understand emissions, improve performance and demonstrate that progress independently.
- Customized carbon reduction policy and governance framework
- Defined carbon accounting scope and boundaries
- Carbon emissions register and data collection approach
- Methodology for calculations and emission factors
- Materiality and prioritization process
- Reduction objectives and measurable targets
- Monitoring and performance tracking arrangements
- Internal data verification and audit
- Certification-audit preparation
- Guidance throughout implementation
Add carbon recognition without creating another disconnected system.
Organizations with existing ISO or other management systems may already have useful processes for objectives, KPIs, document control, legal requirements, internal audits, corrective action and management review. Where appropriate, those processes can support the ETA Carbon Reduction Standard rather than being duplicated.
Carbon Reduction can stand alone—or form part of a broader responsible-business program.
The ETA Corporate Social Responsibility Standards are modular. Organizations may pursue Carbon Reduction on its own or combine it with other relevant areas such as Environmental Stewardship, Modern Slavery Prevention, Anti-Bribery, Conflict-Free Minerals, Animal Welfare and Occupational Health & Safety.
Environmental & Climate Responsibility
Carbon Reduction and Environmental Stewardship can complement one another while remaining distinct standards with different evidence and requirements.
Integrated Implementation
Where multiple ETA standards are implemented together, common management-system elements can be integrated to reduce duplication and ongoing administration.
Build Over Time
You can begin with the standards and certification level most relevant today, then expand as customer, regulatory or organizational expectations develop.
Carbon Reduction certification questions
Do we need to calculate every Scope 3 emission before we can be certified?
No. The ETA certification structure is progressive. Lower levels can focus on Scope 1 and Scope 2, with activity-based and product/value-chain emissions added at higher levels.
What if we do not have perfect carbon data yet?
The standard recognizes that organizations may have different levels of data maturity. The important starting point is a defined, transparent and traceable approach. Data quality, assumptions, exclusions and estimates should be documented, and the system can improve over time.
Is this a carbon-neutral or net-zero certification?
No. The ETA Carbon Reduction Standard focuses on measuring emissions, improving data quality, setting reduction objectives, tracking performance and demonstrating continual improvement. It should not be presented as proof of carbon neutrality or net zero unless a separate applicable scheme or verified claim supports that statement.
Do we need a full sustainability department?
No. The standard is designed to be practical and accessible. Responsibility can be assigned within the existing organization, with Compliancehelp helping establish the management framework and certification-preparation approach.
Can our existing ISO 14001 or other management system help?
Yes. Existing governance, objectives, monitoring, legal-register, audit and corrective-action processes may be useful and can often be integrated where appropriate.
Does Compliancehelp perform the certification audit?
No. Compliancehelp provides consulting, implementation, internal verification and certification preparation. Certification audits and certification decisions are conducted independently.
